FAN Courier – Press Release

  • In 2024, FAN Courier’s turnover increased by 12.5% to 1.385 billion RON (approximately 280 million euros).
  • The total value of investments made by FAN Courier in 2024 amounted to 55 million euros.
  • In 2025, the company has budgeted investments of 40 million euros for international development projects, technological upgrades of regional hubs, and the expansion of the FANbox network.

FAN Courier, an entrepreneurial company with 100% Romanian capital, founded in 1998 by Felix Pătrășcanu, Adrian Mihai, and Neculai Mihai, closed the year 2024 with a turnover of 1.385 billion lei (approximately 280 million euros), reflecting a 12.5% increase compared to the previous year, and maintains its projections for 2025. As its main objectives, the company will focus on continued investments in the development and technological enhancement of regional hubs, equipping the Ștefănești hub with a new sorting belt, expanding the FANbox locker network, and furthering international development. The proposed investment value for 2025 is set at 40 million euros.

In 2024, the company’s primary investment directions were international expansion and connecting the Romanian market to those in Western Europe, as well as developing and optimizing storage and sorting infrastructure to accelerate operations and facilitate the development of alternative delivery solutions.

Last year, FAN Courier opened new international offices, expanded and increased the sorting capacity of several regional hubs (Deva, Arad, Constanța, and Iași), modernized the Ștefănești headquarters, and continued the national expansion of the FANbox locker network.

In a courier market estimated at over 1 billion euros last year, FAN Courier delivered 95 million parcels — domestically, internationally, and in the Republic of Moldova.

“Broadly speaking, 2024 was a more stable year compared to recent ones, a year in which we managed to achieve our business objectives. The main challenges of the year remained the rising operational costs, driven by soaring inflation in the period immediately following the pandemic, and the increasingly acute labor shortage, which compels us to periodically increase recruitment and professional training budgets and bring workers from abroad.

Last year, we continued several projects initiated in previous years, such as international development, expanding the locker network, and developing and upgrading hubs across the country. Regarding international expansion, we opened new offices in regional countries, and in addition to the Republic of Moldova, we now operate in countries such as Greece, Bulgaria, Slovenia, and Hungary. Furthermore, we equipped the Arad hub, dedicated exclusively to international deliveries, with a sorting belt capable of handling 80,000 parcels per day. The most significant investment we made last year — and one of the largest in the company’s history — was the expansion and modernization of the Ștefănești depot,” stated Adrian Mihai, CEO and co-founder of FAN Courier.

Expansion and Modernization of the Ștefănești Hub: A €25 Million Investment
The total land area acquired for the construction of the new hub is approximately 185,000 square meters, featuring 17 buildings, including underground and technical structures, with a total built area of approximately 30,000 square meters. The new Ștefănești hub includes a fulfillment warehouse covering over 60% of the built area, as well as a zone dedicated exclusively to FANbox and Collect Point deliveries.

One of the company’s most ambitious projects in recent years has been the development and expansion of the FANbox locker network. Alongside this expansion came the natural need for a dedicated flow for this type of delivery, which has had a direct impact on the company’s operational efficiency and productivity.

FANbox Lockers: 2,100 Units by February 2025
The FANbox locker network is in continuous expansion, currently reaching 2,000 units. By the end of February, the network will have 2,100 units, with an additional 500 units—already under contract—scheduled for installation during the year.
In 2025, the company will focus on increasing the volume of shipments handled by lockers and expanding the number of installed units. FAN Courier aims for an over 80% increase in locker-delivered volumes this year.

Republic of Moldova: Doubling Revenue in 2024 with a 20% Market Share
Developing FAN Moldova is one of FAN Courier’s priorities. In 2024, FAN Moldova achieved a turnover of €2.2 million, double that of the previous year, with a 20% market share. The 2025 target is to double turnover again and secure the leading position in the market.

“With FAN Moldova, we aim for market leadership. Currently, we hold a 20% market share, but the significant development over the past two years has set the stage for reaching 35% this year. The Republic of Moldova remains a priority for FAN Courier, and we will continue to identify solutions for expanding and diversifying our services in the neighboring market,” said Felix Pătrășcanu, FAN Courier co-founder.

Over the past two years, FAN Moldova has doubled its delivery volume annually, from 25,000 shipments per month in 2021 to 60,000 in 2023 and over 100,000 in 2024. The company currently operates with 50 in-house couriers and 40 subcontractors.

€40 Million Investment Budget for 2025
FAN Courier has allocated €40 million for investments in 2025, a year expected to be less predictable due to political instability and economic uncertainty.

“The unclear political situation and the persistence of this uncertainty could also impact the business environment, given Romania’s significant deficits. We don’t yet have clear signals about potential tax changes for the current year, so our strategy remains cautious. The lack of fiscal predictability, economic uncertainties, and the potential decline in consumption due to austerity measures imposed by the government all contribute to a generally tense climate, both among the population and in the business sector,” stated Neculai Mihai, FAN Courier co-founder.

One of the most significant challenges remains the labor shortage, with one solution being the recruitment of workers from outside Romania, requiring additional time and financial resources. Currently, FAN Courier employs 130 foreign workers across its Bucharest and regional warehouses. Staff from Nepal have been hired for multiple key execution roles, and they have quickly adapted to the company’s requirements and the specifics of local teams, demonstrating professionalism and commitment.

In this context, the company’s investment and development strategy will be adjusted as needed, with key directions this year including expanding and strengthening FAN Courier’s position in international markets, increasing storage and sorting capacity through the modernization and technological advancement of regional hubs, and continuously developing out-of-home delivery services, including FANbox lockers, Collect Point partner locations, and FAN offices across the country.

Sustainability Strategy
FAN Courier reaffirms its commitment to the environment and society by developing responsibly to minimize the ecological impact of its logistics operations and generate sustainable benefits for the communities it serves. To this end, the company has developed a Sustainability Strategy that reflects its long-term values and objectives.

This strategy integrates ecological and social principles into all aspects of its activities, from transport and logistics to creating a motivating work environment and supporting community initiatives.

In 2024, a photovoltaic panel system with a total capacity of 740 kW was installed in Brașov following an investment of approximately €600,000. This infrastructure covers about 60% of the local office’s energy needs and includes storage batteries. This project complements a €1.8 million investment in Ștefăneștii de Jos, where a 2,230 kW photovoltaic system was installed. These panels generate green energy, covering about 30% of internal consumption. For 2025 and beyond, FAN Courier plans to continue strategic investments in renewable energy, expanding projects in Bucharest and other major Romanian cities, thereby reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency.

FAN Courier’s fleet of electric vehicles is growing steadily. Currently, the company has over 150 electric vehicles, and acquisitions are ongoing. These vehicles travel approximately 50 kilometers daily, primarily delivering in the vicinity of the company’s offices, where an in-house charging station network ensures that the fleet’s electric vehicles are powered by green energy produced on-site.
